Site Description
The site is located within a rural/residential area. The Property is an abandoned hazardous waste dump which encompasses approximately 10 acres.
Contaminant/COCs
Phthalates, VOCs
Primary Receptor
Groundwater, nearby potable wells
Trigger Event
In August 1979, several hundred drums of liquid hazardous wastes were emptied onto the ground adjacent to the Property residence. The residential well was found to be contaminated in 1985
Extent of Impact
The contaminated area defined by the 1999 CEA encompasses the entire Property and surrounding residences.
System Description
One active pumping well pumps to an equalization tank. The water flows through the equalization tank and is treated with polymer and NaOH. The water is then treated for iron removal by clarification and flocculation. After the iron removal the water is processed through a 9000 lb Sand Filter to two 10,000 lbs Liquid Granular Activated Carbon vessels. The water is discharged through an injection well gallerylocated behind the water treatment plant.
System Started
August 1995
System Goals
Continue to remove residual contamination. Decrease TCE concentrations to below the Drinking Water Standards.
The second five-year review conducted by the EPA in 2006 found that the remedy at the site is protective of human health and the environment and will restore the groundwater acquifier to drinking water standards.
