How Handex’s “Nobody Gets Hurt” Policy Works

Written by Maureen Davis | October 13, 2016

Handex is committed to conducting business in a manner that protects the health and safety of employees, as well as the environment, others involved in its operations, its customers, and the public. This commitment requires compliance with all applicable laws and regulations; facilities that are designed and operated to high standards; and systematic identification and management of safety, health and environmental risks.

The method by which we will achieve the goal of “Nobody Gets Hurt” is by following the Loss Prevention System (LPS) coupled with a Good Catch reporting program.

What is the Loss Prevention System?

The Loss Prevention System (LPS) is a behavioral based safety program that Handex has used for almost 10 years. Recognizing the need to enhance our internal Health & Safety (H&S) Program, in 2014, Handex implemented the “Good Catch” reporting program. Since that time we have experienced a dramatic drop in Near Losses as well as Loss Incidents.

Handex’s management has strong stewardship of its safety program, with a firm ownership commitment to health and safety as a core value of the company. This stewardship is demonstrated in management’s best practices, site visits, performing site audits, attending safety meetings & training, and endorsing incentives. Every member of Handex from the CEO to our Technicians are trained on the LPS Program.

What is Good Catch Reporting?

Results have shown that if we focus our efforts on finding hazards that have the potential for negative impact and mitigate them, we are eliminating the risk of loss altogether. The Good Catch enables the individual to identify potential risks and take the time to reduce or eliminate them before they can become a Near Loss. This simple yet effective process empowers all employees to become safety specialists. If we are successful at building a solid foundation supported by proactive beliefs and actions we reduce loss even further.

Partnering With ULWorkplace PureSafety

In January 2016, Handex entered into a long term contract with ULWorkplace PureSafety. This has enabled us to implement the UL PureSafety Incident Management System (IMS) and Learning Management System (LMS) to complement our LPS Program. The two programs are used simultaneously to improve the overall safety culture at Handex.

Through this partnership, we have been able to provide quality training that remains current with all local, state, and federal requirements while at the same time keeping the staff member engaged. Through UL PureSafety, HCR has over 50 industry relevant training topics available as well as unlimited upload capabilities for custom training modules developed outside of the UL PureSafety platform.

Nobody Gets Hurt

The overall purpose of our H&S Policy Statement is to ensure;“Nobody Gets Hurt”. Handex’s goal is to send all employees home at the end of each workday in the same condition in which they came to work that day. The health and safety of our employees is absolutely essential to the success of our company.
