Dredging is used when you need to remove or move sediment from resources. Sediment is material deposited by water, wind, or glacier or is already existing on the bottom of a water body. This is why sediment can be found in numerous places such as streams, lakes, coastal waters, the earth, and more. With all the different places that sediment can be found, there are different classifications of dredging.
Dredging is used for a number of reasons such as:
At Handex we are experts in Environmental Dredging, we have over 50 years of experience in cleaning up contaminated areas in numerous industries to ensure everything is running efficiently. We can help you find the best dredge type for your project and ensure your project runs smoothly and meets regulations.
There are two primary types of dredges:
At Handex we regularly use hydraulic dredges to clean up lagoons, pits, and ponds to ensure they are running at optimal efficiency.
A dredge is used to remove sludge and sediment from the bottom of a lagoon. Dredges are equipped with a submersible pump that uses suction to suck up debris from the lagoon. In order to loosen up debris, a dredge uses a rotating cutter-bar. That loosens debris is then suctioned up from the bottom of the lagoon to the surface. Once it reaches the surface the debris is transported away for final processing.
It is important to dredge your lagoon as over time sludge and sediment accumulate at the bottom, which causes unpleasant odors and appearance. Lagoons also need regular maintenance as the added sludge or sediment can cause the lagoon to exceed its original capacity. The main benefits of dredging your lagoon are:
