Prior to construction, Handex collaborated with the design engineering firm to modify the placement of Structures S-1 and S-5 to eliminate the need for the installation of specialized sheet piling. This modification resulted in a project savings of approximately $400,000.
Handex then worked with a specialty shoring firm to design a specialty trench box system to install the structures and control the influx of pond and canal water. Handex also coordinated with the design engineer to modify the design from reinforced concrete pipe to HDPE pipe. This reduced the cost of the project and also allowed for a better sealed drainage system. Finally, Handex designed and installed an Injectable Barrier Wall to prevent the migration of the groundwater contamination plume during construction dewatering activities.
This project was completed on time, within the established budget and with no safety related issues with either our employees or the traveling public.
