This DOW Chemical Company plant has an active wastewater treatment plant that uses 2 sand pits for their emergency over-flow needs. Along with wastewater, there is a polymer mixed in from their processing generation that gets absorbed into the sand. Over time, this sand becomes clogged with solids and vegetation and must be taken out of service until they can be properly remediated.
Handex utilized the necessary equipment to dig and stockpile this material and loaded it into awaiting dump trucks for disposal at a nearby landfill. The operators had to be careful not to penetrate the clay lining or damage the underground piping.
Each pit was backfilled with new gravel and sand to satisfy the clients specifications which allowed the plant to instantly place them back in service. The equipment was de-contaminated and the crew de-mobilized, completing the project on time and at budget.
