Handex’s comprehensive suite of sludge dewatering technologies allows us to reduce volumes of liquid /solid mixtures by up to 80% resulting in reduced transportation and disposal costs, along with compliance with the regulatory requirements. Dewatering options HCR provides include High & Low Pressure Plate and Frame as well as Belt filter pressing, Centrifuge processing, and Geomembrane solutions.

Handex’s treatability testing develops information on a pilot scale for selection of the best dewatering option for a specific application and lowest cost that meet our clients’ objectives and regulatory requirements. Pilot scale studies along with our extensive experience and key personnel help design the most optimal treatment scenario for varying conditions and materials.

What are My Dewatering Options?

There are various technologies for sludge dewatering available for different applications. HCR provides treatability testing of sludge to achieve the optimum process choice while providing the most cost-effective solution for our clients.

  • Plate & Frame Filter Press - Plate and Frame Filter Presses produce filter cakes that are between 40-70% solids by weight. This type of processing is generally used on sludge where the highest volume reduction is desired.
  • Belt Press - The Belt Press is most commonly used when high-moisture content is acceptable. It produces a filter cake that is between 18-25% solids by weight. Typical applications include Digester Sludge, Paper Mill Sludge and Biological Sludge.
  • Centrifuge Processing - Centrifuge processing produces 25-40% solids by weight. Centrifuges have a variety of applications along with many options for sizing for volume. They also offer a smaller footprint than other technologies.
  • Geomembrane Solutions - Geomembranes are generally used for applications where a high volume of water and low volume of solids need to be effectively dewatered. This technology is used for water filtration plant residuals, wastewater residuals, settling pond residuals and other similar applications.
